Kai W. Wucherpfennig, MD PhD
Chair, Department of Cancer Immunology and Virology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Nancy Lurie Marks Professor of Neurology in the Field of Medical Oncology
Professor of Immunology, Harvard Medical School
Professor of Neurology, Brigham and Women's Hospital & Harvard Medical School
Co-director, Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy (PICI) at DFCI
Director, Center for Cancer Immunotherapy Research, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Everybody calls me Kai because my last name can take years to learn (in case you wonder, my first name is Finnish, my last name German)! I came to Boston as a postdoctoral fellow, first at Brigham and Women's Hospital and then at Harvard College. I have stayed because Boston is such a great place to do science and have been a faculty member at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since 1995. I study T cells because of their fascinating biology and their central role in many human diseases, including cancer and autoimmunity. I enjoy developing highly innovative approaches to important questions, working with advanced technologies and writing compelling publications. I also very much enjoy teaching graduate students in the Harvard Immunology Program.
